4.The most British (Cricket World Championship)
Australia's victory in the final of the 2014
Cricket World Cup.
In France,
cricket is 1,200 licensed. That does not change the case: the Cricket World Cup
is one of the most popular events in the world. It meets every four years - the
same year as the Rugby World Cup - between eight and sixteen of the best
national teams. In 2015, it was held in Australia and New Zealand.
Which plays in his favor
Cricket is
played in few countries but by many people. It is the number one sport in
India, with 1.3 billion people, and Pakistan, which has 188 million. 2.5
billion viewers were expected for the 2015 edition. Between 1 and 1.5 billion
people followed the meeting between India and Pakistan. A hallucinating figure.
Even if the extreme length of the games partly explains this score, it is worth
to the
Cricket
World Cup to be simply the single most watched sporting event simultaneously.
He is able to gather about 20% of humanity in front of his post.
What's missing
Cricket
remains a sport essentially confined to the former British colonies. If it is
well-aired in 200 countries, the world championship is only played between 14
teams and 23 nations, knowing that the West Indies team is multinational. Of
the eleven editions of the competition, only twenty teams participated. The
winners are always the same: Australia, India, Pakistan, the West Indies and
Sri Lanka. Outside of these countries, the name of the Australian Mitchell
Starc, best player of the 2015 World Cup, is much less familiar than that of
Lionel Messi, best player of the 2014 Football World Cup. In France, even the
names of Nicolas Douchez Etienne Didot tell more about the average sports fan.
Our opinion
We must see
reality in the face. Cricket has a monstrous international strike force, even
if it is invisible in France.
